Do you have a BHAG?

Jesper Blog

Think big and win big.

Have you heard of BHAG – Big Hairy Audacious Goal?

It is a business strategy of conceiving a mission statement that seems audacious and questionable to people outside the organization.

But, to the people working in the company, it is a vision that everybody believes and works together to make it possible.

IKEA – Create a better everyday life for their customers.
Nike – Bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete* in the world. (*If you have a body, you are an athlete.)
Tesla – To accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.
Facebook – To give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected.

Instead of aiming for tactical and specific goals like a 20% revenue growth in the first quarter, BHAG is an audacious 10-to-30-year goal to progress towards an envisioned future.

“A true BHAG is clear and compelling, serves as unifying focal point of effort, and acts as a clear catalyst for team spirit. It has a clear finish line, so the organization can know when it has achieved the goal; people like to shoot for finish lines.” – James Collins and Jerry Porras, Creators of BHAG strategy.

Think BIG, Take BIGGER Actions

Do you have a BHAG in your life? It needs to be hairy, it needs to be huge, and it needs to be audacious.

For me, it is to inspire ONE MILLION PEOPLE to rebuild their lifestyles doing the things they love to do.

It is audacious, and sometimes, it still scares the hell of out of me when I think about it. But, it is also this dream that pushes me and keeps me hustling.

“True success is achieved when we set big goals and we stretch ourselves into the opportunity zone.” – Lou Ludwig
